⚠ WARNING: Welding fume from MIG wire contains manganese and iron oxides. Chronic manganese inhalation causes manganism (Parkinson-like neurological disorder). Metal fever possible from galvanized work. Local exhaust ventilation is critical.
GHS Hazard Pictograms
⚠ Harmful/Irritant❤️ Health Hazard
Hazard Statements (H-codes)
H372 – Causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure (manganism from Mn in fume)
H315 – Causes skin irritation
H319 – Causes serious eye irritation
Precautionary Statements (P-codes)
P260 – Do not breathe fume
P271 – Use only outdoors or in well-ventilated area
P281 – Use required PPE
First Aid Measures (Section 4)
👁Eye Contact▼
Flush with water for 15 minutes. Welding arc can cause photokeratitis (arc eye) — seek medical attention if eye pain develops hours after welding.
🖐Skin Contact▼
Wash with soap and water. UV radiation from arc causes sunburn-like burns on exposed skin.
🫁Inhalation▼
Move to fresh air. Persistent respiratory symptoms require medical evaluation. Report chronic fume exposure history to physician.
🫦Ingestion▼
Not applicable in normal use.
Storage & Handling
🔒 Storage & Handling: Store wire in dry location to prevent corrosion. Flux-cored wire is moisture-sensitive — reseal after opening.
PPE Requirements
Welding helmet (shade 10+ for MIG)
Flame-resistant gloves and clothing
Local exhaust ventilation or PAPR with welding fume filter
